JPMorgan Sold XRP, Bought Bitcoin (BTC) and This Altcoin Instead! Here Are the Details
US institutions are successively disclosing their Bitcoin (BTC) and altcoin holdings. The latest announcement comes from JPMorgan.
According to a 13F filing with the SEC, JPMorgan significantly increased its holdings of Bitcoin ETFs in the first quarter of 2026. Accordingly, the bank reported holding approximately 8.3 million shares of BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF, iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), in the first quarter.
This figure represents a 174% increase compared to approximately 3 million shares in the fourth quarter of 2025.
JPMorgan’s acquisitions extended beyond IBIT. During the same period, the bank’s holdings of Fidelity’s FBTC and Bitwise’s BITB also increased significantly, by approximately 900% and 450% respectively.
The bank also increased its investment in Bitcoin futures ETFs. JPMorgan increased the number of shares in its ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) from 40 shares in the fourth quarter of 2025 to 1,302 shares in the first quarter.
JPMorgan also increased its investment in US spot Ethereum ($ETH) ETFs. The bank’s holdings of $ETH ETFs increased by approximately 36% in the first quarter compared to the previous quarter. Accordingly, the bank holds 266,734 shares of iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA).
In response, the bank significantly reduced its investment in the $XRP ETF. JPMorgan cut its stake in the Bitwise $XRP ETF from 3,870 shares to zero in the first quarter.
